In September 2022 spanning Te Wiki O Te Reo and the marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Maori Language petition, Tame Iti displayed an exhibition piece in Pōneke called I Will Not Speak Māori. This nation wide campaign was designed to challange and provoke conversation around his experience as a young boy of being punished for speaking his native language at school.
