07 - Breathing Through It
As the son of a Māori activist father and Pākehā mother, Tame’s sons walk between two worlds, never fully belonging. With their father Tame campaigning for te reo Māori revival and an English-speaking upbringing with their mother, Wairere and Toi were detached from the native tongue. Their story reveals the identity struggles bi-cultural youth face when disconnected from their indigenous language. By sharing these journeys, the Iti family furthers mutual understanding between cultures and helps restore what was lost.
